Outsiders might classify Marquis di Barolo as famous, certainly well-known, 6th generation owner, Valentina Abbona might interject with historic. And there are no two ways around it, Marquis di Barolo is just that. French noblewoman Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier, led the charge in taking the Nebbiolo grape, leaning into the terroir of the region, and ultimately producing what we now know as Barolo. The estate still uses wooden barrels from this period. 200 years old—now that's mind-blowing.
Valentina grew up around this, a wine geek's dream, and like so many, did not find her way back to the family business until after taking time and space. Now, she would be the first to share that Barolo belongs to her as much as she belongs to it. It's truly a part of her.
Barolo is highly sought after due to the time and investment it requires and yet, we're with Valentina in her thinking that overall, wine is meant to be enjoyed. In addition to Barolo, Valentina and her family produce Arneis, Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo Langhe, and Barbaresco.
Join us for a rich Piedmontese-inspired meal, featuring wines from the Marquis di Barolo estate, over conversation and storytelling with Valentina Abbona of Marquis di Barolo.
